Hon. Mayor Vicente D. Orencia received his first-ever National Sandugo Award for outstanding Local Government Executives for demonstrating full support, commitment and involvement in the promotion of National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP). The National Center for Health Facility Development of the Department of Health is responsible in giving the award.
Mayor Orencia was the only incumbent Municipal Mayor in the entire province of Davao Oriental to received the award last September 25, 2013 at the Heritage Hotel Manila. He was accompanied by the Municipal Health Office of this municipality Dr. Victoriano S. Guiritan.
The highest award given to local officials who gives support to the voluntary blood donation is the Sandugo Award. Hon. Orencia is an advocate of the program and took the effort to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply not only for his constituents but in the entire province with the Philippine National Red Cross-Mati Chapter being its depository unit.
According to Hon. Vicente D. Orencia. “Everyday, there are always dengue patients, accident victims., Maternal bleedings and surgeries that needs immediate blood transfusion in order to live. Hence, blood donors should be acknowledged as everyday heroes for their valuable contribution which generates that precious lives are saved.”
Aside from mayor Orencia, seven local official were awarded the same recognition were Barangay Capatains Maria T. Te of Manuel Roxas, Amador Montizo, of Sergio Osmeña, Roque Agosto of Tamban, Edmundo U. Basa of Magdug, Gregorio Yrasuegui of Surop, Gerald F. Arquiza of Pundaguitan and two-time awarded Jalal T. Musa of Tagabebe. They received their award at Pryce Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City last September 20, 2013.
