Around 500 teachers from North and South district both High School and Elementary, flocked to St. Francis Xavier Parish Auditorium, Poblacion, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental to join the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day.
World Teacher’s Day is held annually every 5th of October since 1994 - when it was created by UNESCO. It celebrates and recognizes teacher’s efforts worldwide. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers.
Both Supreme Pupils Government (SPG) and Supreme Student Government (SSG) hosted the event.
The teachers witnessed the different presentations from the students in their intermission numbers. They also showed off their skills in singing as well as in dancing during the singing and dancing competition.
“I salute you all teachers because you are among the many factors that keep children in school and influence learning. I am proud of you. For without you, we will not be producing many professionals in our municipality,” Mayor Vicente D. Orencia said.
The mayor also promised to support all endeavors of the education sector for the benefit of the school children. He wanted to make next year’s celebration a more meaningful and a memorable one.
Before the afternoon ended, the teachers joined the parlor games specially prepared for them by the SSG. Lucky winners of the raffle draws also received gifts from the Hon. Mayor Vicente Orencia.
