BRGY. UPPER TIBANBAN – The LGU initiated the Almasiga Tree Planting at Mansinagan Ridge which was participated by 8 personnel from the LGU, including Hon. Vicente D. Orencia, Municipal Mayor, and Ms. Quin Mae O. Flores, the Municipal Tourism Officer; 12 personnel from Lupon Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) spearheaded by Mr. Zaldy L. Lumaan, the OIC-CENRO-Lupon; 2  personnel from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XI; 28 students and 2 instructors of Governor Generoso College of Arts Sciences and Technology (GGCAST); 16 volunteers of Davao Oriental Search Mobilization and Rescue Team (DOSMART); and, 8 planters from the constituents of Brgy. Upper Tibanban.


 Mr. Joey E. Gamao, the Municipal Assistant Tourism Officer, explained to the students of GGCAST on the afternoon of July 23rd that Almasiga can only be best planted at 300-800 meters above sea level elevation, and Mansinagan Ridge is qualified since it is 534 meters above the sea level. He further said that some of the seedlings planted on 2013 by the same students have successfully grown up now.


 At night, Mr. Joel G. Gavilo, the Human Resource Management Officer (HRMO) and one of the instructors of GGCAST, inspired the college students to continue planting trees to help preserve nature for the next generations. “The enjoyment of the beauty of nature will be our debt to our children and grandchildren in the future if we won’t preserve it today”, Mr. Gavilo said. He also furnished copies to the students the poem “Trees” written by Joyce Kilmer.

 Moreover, at exactly 7:00 am on July 24th, the participants planted the 230 Almasiga seedlings in 1.2 hectares. After planting, Mayor Orencia gave a message to the participants on the preservation of Mother Nature especially the most prestigious tree of Governor Generoso, the Almasiga. “Almasiga tree planting is a preliminary activity in this site because we are planning to make it an Eco Park in order to provide livelihood program to indigenous tappers by promoting Almasiga products”, Mayor Orencia said. Afterwhich, Mr. Lumaan expressed his warm appreciation to the participants and said, “I am glad to see young environmentalists of Governor Generoso planting Almasiga trees. As the CENR Officer of Lupon, I would like to thank all of you in helping us preserve the beauty of nature”.

 Almasiga Tree Planting is a yearly activity of the LGU to help preserve the nature, to maintain the green environment of the municipality, to promote the products of Almasiga, and to continue the legacy in the celebration of Almasiga Festival.
