LGU Governor Generoso has turn-over one unit 4-wheel drive tractor to Nangan-Surop Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (NASUFARBA) on January 24, 2017 at Nangan Barangay Hall, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental. The activity was part of the Bottom-Up Budgeting Project spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government Unit which was funded by the Department of Agriculture through the Regional Field Office XI headed by Engr. Ricardo M. Oñate Jr.
Punong Barangay Jessie Matutina was pleased to note that the project beneficiary come from his barangay. He encouraged the organization to take good care of the project.
In her message, Hon. Katrina Joy H. Orencia expressed her gratitude to the people whom in one way or another has contributed to the realization of the project. She further stressed that her administration will continue to look for opportunities and craft livelihood programs that will help the farmers.
Mr. Filmore Polancos, NASUFARBA chairman, was grateful to the LGU and the Department of Agriculture for the said project. He assured that his group will take good care of the project and create a management team to look into its operation. He mentioned that this project will not only benefit members of NASUFARBA but also all famers from Barangay Nangan and the neighboring barangays as well.
The inaugural session of Governor Generoso 16th council took place at the Municipal Gymnasium, Poblacion Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on July 4, 2016.
The day marks the ceremonial turn-over of the town’s first-ever woman Local Chief Executive, Hon. Katrina Joy H. Orencia from the reign of her father and now the newly elected Municipal Vice Mayor of the municipality, Hon. Vicente D. Orencia.
Over 300 people coming from the different sectors of the society including their families, relatives, friends, municipal employees, and barangay officials and functionaries witnessed this significant day. Guest coming from other government agencies also graced the event. They were Jessica Itil, DILG, PSI Junvic Nasayao, PNP and Yvette T. Sunga, DILG Provincial Director.
Messages of the new sets of local officials focused on the reconciliation, their pledge to repay back the favor by way of formulating laws and ordinances that would benefit the constituents of the municipality and in thanking their supporters for their trust and efforts during the campaign.
“Since election fever is over, let’s bury all the hatchets and move on, ” according to Hon. Councilor Virgilio Cielo.
An estimated of 46.43 hectares of rice field have been affected by the massive rice crop damage on the previous June to July of 2016 crop pestilence. Several local farmers specifically located in Barangay Sergio Osmeña, Manuel Roxas, Crispin Dela Cruz and Poblacion, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental were the most affected areas. As an intervention, the Local Government Unit of Governor Generoso in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture through the Municipal Agriculture Office as the implementing agency of the LGU in providing agricultural extension services to famers, distributed fertilizers as an assistance to those affected farmers who experienced massive failure in their rice fields.
More than fifty farmers convened at the Municipal Gymnasiun, Poblacion, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on September 20, 2016 to receive 1 sack of fertilizer each to aid in the rehabilitation of their ricefields.
Speaking at the forum, Hon. Mayor Katrina Joy H. Orencia stated that she will make sure that all the help she can give to our farmers will be given and provided because the farmers play a vital role in our society as a main producer and source of our basic needs which is food.
Every year, the Municipality of Governor Generoso celebrates a Nutrition Month Culmination Program. On July 30, 2016 the culmination program was held at Old Casa, Poblacion, this municipality. Sixteen barangays gave ardent support and actively participated the activity. These said barangays were headed by their respective Punong Barangay and the rest of their constituents. They set their respective booths properly where they could display their various food items such as rootcrops, vegetables, and fruits. The activity was facilitated by the personnel of the Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Nutrition Office and Municipal Health Office who worked together to ensure a smooth celebration of Nutrition Month Culmination.
This year’s theme “First 1,000 days ni Baby Pahalagahan Para sa Malusog na kinabukasan” was given more emphasis by Mr. Candido V. Perdido Jr., Municipal Nutrition Action Officer. He thoroughly explained about the theme. “It is very important that during the stage of pregnancy the mother would have in mind eating healthy and nutritious foods regularly while she carries her baby for nine (9) months until such time of giving birth and growing up a healthy baby for the next two (2) years”, he simply stressed out.
